International soy ingredients supplier, The Solae Company moved it’s headquarters to a new campus designed by Cannon Design, and needed a solution to permanently display the company’s growing number of patents. Upon being hired for the installation design, KLI drew inspiration from the Solae logo and the soybean plant itself. Each patent number and the name of the patent holders are silk-screened onto clear acrylic in the shape of the soybean leaf and were strung onto an arrangement of 5 aircraft cables tension-mounted between the floor and ceiling of the 56 ft tall stairwell. The patents that have been in existence the longest are found near the bottom on the first floor and the newer patents are found higher on the cables; the installation grows as the company’s patent numbers grow.
