Recreation & Wellness Center

Project Information

The University of Missouri St. Louis recently opened their new 94,300 GSF wellness and recreation center. The project is LEED certified and utilized a “design/bid/build” delivery method. Kuhlmann Leavitt was brought on board to design the environmental graphics, signage and wayfinding site wide. Our primary role was two-fold: create a branded, engaging space for the diverse UMSL student body and make it a place that is easily navigated by all. The interior architecture is largely comprised of expansive, open volumes. As such, the environmental graphics are in most cases super-sized to take advantage of the long, panoramic views. Oversized type on contrasting neutrals accentuated by pops of color activate the spaces in a way that is lively but livable for the long term
