Washington University Center for Teaching and Learning

Washington University in St. Louis recently renovated unused basement square footage to serve as the consolidated home for their undergraduate writing center.

The somewhat hidden, underground space reimagined by Tao + Lee Architects required signage and wayfinding that would help students find their way and be code compliant. The client directive also asked for engaging—but not overpowering—graphics that would give the environment a distinct look and feel. Our solution married simple materials and a simple color-way with approachable, supergraphics comprised of hand drawn doodles and typographic elements.
